National Museum of Archaeology

Step into a world of ancient wonders and magical mysteries at the National Museum of Archaeology – the perfect first stop for young adventurers curious about Malta’s past! Inside this grand, 450-year-old palace in Valletta, you’ll travel thousands of years back in time to meet the island’s very first people.

On the ground floor, explore tools and pots from the Neolithic period – that’s over 5,000 years ago! See tiny clay animals, statues, and one very famous lady fast asleep – the mysterious Sleeping Lady! You’ll also meet the powerful Venus of Malta and a giant statue from the Tarxien Temples – all found in Malta’s famous ancient sites like the Ħal Saflieni Hypogeum.

Upstairs, it’s time for the Bronze Age and the mysterious Phoenicians – clever sea traders who brought shiny gold, colourful glass, and even a huge sarcophagus (that’s a fancy word for an ancient tomb!).

The museum itself is like a palace from a fairy tale, with a huge painted hall called the Gran Salon, where fun events like fashion shows and movies happen.
